I thought I would begin this travel section by listing sites to visit while in the West African country of Ghana. Just a little background about myself- I was born and raised in Ghana up to the age of 5, and subsequently arrived in the States a few months before my 6th birthday. Since moving to the States, I haven’t had the opportunity to go back to Ghana to visit my extended family until this past year in mid-October.
I’m not sure why, but my memories of Ghana seem to have faded over time as I started a new life in the States. Therefore, I want to chronicle my adventures in Ghana and let it become a reminder of how wonderful and nostalgic my trip was. I’m going to start a mini-series about my trip, talking about the preparations for the trip to my overall experience of the trip (these upcoming posts will not be in any particular order).
Ghana consists of 10 regions, and I was lucky enough to visit 6 out of the 10 regions in the 26 days I was there for. I visited at least one attraction in each of the regions I went to. Below is a list of all the places I had a chance to explore.
- Boti Falls
- Aburi Botanical Gardens
- Okomfo Anokye’s Sword
- Mt. Afadjato
- Kakum National Park
- Busua Beach Resort and Vienna City Beach
- Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park/Kwame Nkrumah’s Childhood Home
- Cape Coast Castle
- Lake Volta
- Kumasi Cultural Center
- Kumasi Zoo
- Nzulezu Stilt Village
Each of these attractions and places deserve their own spotlight, so be on the lookout for upcoming posts on my travels. I suggest that you subscribe to my email list to be kept informed when a new post is up.
If you live(d) in Ghana or have visited it, what are your favorite places?
